United Kingdom Study Visit

As part of the INSPIRE Project, a study visit to the United Kingdom was conducted between October 13-18, 2024, with a delegation comprising representatives from the Republic of Türkiye’s Ministry of Industry and Technology – General Directorate of Development Agencies, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism – General Directorate of Copyrights, the Ministry of Trade – General Directorate of Service Exports, the Turkish Statistical Institute, Istanbul and Izmir Development Agencies, and the Creative Industries Council of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB).

The study visit provided an opportunity to examine evidence-based policymaking, national and regional creative economy practices, and community-based creative industry examples in the cities of London and Edinburgh.

In the London segment of the program, meetings were held with key institutions such as Creative PEC, Innovation UK, Arts Council England, Catapult Network, Goldsmiths University, and CoSTAR. These discussions focused on data collection in the creative economy, designing policy processes based on data and information, developing measurable and impactful policies, and introducing support mechanisms and tools. Additionally, visits were made to Hackney Wick and Royal Docks, areas that have transformed into new urban and cultural hubs through the creative industries, where sector professionals shared insights on their development processes.

In Edinburgh, participants explored the intersection of creative industries and technology through engagements with Codebase Creative Hub, Creative Scotland, and British Council Scotland. Various implementation examples, including festivals, accelerator programs, and creative space development, were presented, with a focus on fostering collaboration and drawing inspiration for future initiatives.

The creative industries offer significant opportunities for interregional cooperation and impact-driven partnerships. The INSPIRE Project will continue to serve as a platform for fostering these collaborations.
